Changes to your Citi Debit Card

If you've received a new Citi Debit Card with the Mastercard® logo, here is everything you need to know

We are delighted to introduce Mastercard as our new debit card scheme provider.

Your new card offers all the functions you’re used to including cash withdrawals, card purchases, contactless payments and online and phone shopping, wherever you see the Mastercard logo. We’ve also added brand new benefits and security features.

What’s changed?

  • Your new card has a different card number, expiry date and 3-digit security code
  • For online security, Verified by Visa will now be replaced by Mastercard® Securecode™
  • Access to Mastercard® Priceless® Cities – unlock a wide range of experiences along with offers on the things that make life truly worthwhile, in destinations all around the world

What stays the same?

  • Your bank account number and all Direct Debits and Standing Orders stay the same
  • Citi Debit Card fees are unchanged - please see Citi Debit Card fees for more information
  • Ability to make purchases in-store, online and over the phone at millions of locations worldwide
  • Contactless payments of £30 or less in the UK*
  • Your daily ATM withdrawal and purchase limits
  • Citi Globeshopper is still available to all cardholders

Update your card details

Your new Citi Debit Card has a different number and expiry date. It’s important to update these card details as soon as possible with any retailers who hold them, like Amazon, eBay or Google. Please don’t forget to update your card details for any regular payments set up against your card, such as monthly subscription payments to Spotify or Netflix. If you use PayPal you will also need to update your new card details with them.

Protect your online purchases with Mastercard® SecureCode

Mastercard SecureCode uses One Time Passwords, which provides an easy way of identifying yourself to Citi Security when shopping online.

Once you enter your card details, Mastercard SecureCode may ask you to enter a six-digit One Time Password which will be sent by text from ‘Citibank’ to the mobile phone you have registered with us. This must be entered in the on-screen box to authenticate the purchase and help prevent card fraud.

Make sure we have your correct mobile number. As One Time Passwords are sent to you by text, it’s vital we have your up-to-date mobile number to ensure payments are authorised smoothly.

Why are you replacing my Debit Card?

Citi is partnering with Mastercard as our new Citi Debit Card scheme provider. As a result we are replacing all Citi Debit Cards.

I don’t want a Mastercard® Debit Card. Can I keep my Visa Debit Card?

All new Citi Debit Cards are now issued by Mastercard. However, you still enjoy easy worldwide access to your money, global payment capability and secure online shopping, just as before.

Which account is my card linked to?

Your new card is linked to the same account as before. You can link it to another account of your choice by signing in to Citi Online or contacting CitiPhone on 0800 00 55 00 (or +44 207 500 55 00 if calling from outside the UK).

I am currently registered for Verified by Visa. Do I have to register for Mastercard® SecureCode?

No. There is no need to register for Mastercard SecureCode or set up a password. Instead, for certain purchases a One Time Password will be sent by text to your mobile phone. To authenticate your purchase, simply enter the code in the onscreen box and press submit.

If I have a recurring payment set up against my card will I need to update the payment with my new card number?

Yes. If your card number is used for regular purchases you will need to update the payment with your new card details.

If I have a Direct Debit set up on my account, will I need to update it with my new card number?

No. Direct Debits are set up against your account number, which is not changing.

Do my account terms change?

No your Terms and Conditions remain the same.

I had an additional card on my account, will I get a new card for the additional card as well?

Yes all cards will be replaced. You should expect a replacement for your additional card within the next few months.

What will change on my new Citi Debit Card - number, expiry date, CVV, PIN?

Your new card will have a different card number, expiry date and CVV. However your PIN will remain the same as your previous card.

What do I need to do when I receive my new Citi Debit Card?

Please activate it and begin using immediately. There is no need to re-register for Citi Online.

Will there be any change in my online banking login?

No your online banking login details will remain the same.

Can I have an ordinary ATM card without the debit feature?

No. All our cards are debit cards and we no longer offer ATM only cards.
