Investment funds to Diversify the risk and cost of your investment

Investment funds

What are Investment Funds?

Investment funds are pooled funds that can invest across different sectors, countries and product types. Investing in funds helps diversify risk and reduce costs, while giving you access to a wide variety of markets. The fund is managed by a professional fund manager whose job it is to aim to maximise returns while minimising risks. Returns are made on the rise of the investments.

Investment funds can be classified into four broad categories:-

Open End Funds - In open ended funds units can be sold and purchased at the Net Asset Value (“NAV”) on any trading day. Hence, they allow investors to participate directly in the markets with greater flexibility.

Close-ended fund’s market value rises and falls like individual stocks (although it may not be possible to directly exchange units in the Closed End Funds for underlying shares). Close End Funds may also not allow for a daily liquidation of the shares.

Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) - ETFs are investment funds traded in the stock markets. They are an attractive investment option due to lows costs and stock-like features.

Hedge Funds: - Hedge funds face less regulation than other type of investment funds. As a result, Hedge Funds can invest in a wider range of securities such as derivatives and leverage in both domestic and international markets.

Investment funds should be considered for medium to long-term investment plans. Your Relationship Manager will work with you to identify which funds best suit your strategy - whether as the cornerstone of a long-term investment plan or to complement your existing portfolio.

Why you may consider Investment Funds?

Investment Funds could be appropriate if you:

  • want lots of choice about where you invest your money. They are available at all levels of risk, from, low-risk Money Market funds to higher risk Equity Funds.
  • are looking to grow your wealth, or receive an income, or a combination of the two, as different Investment Funds aim to achieve all these goals, to varying extents.
  • want to make a medium to long-term investment plan and minimise your costs and risks.

Benefits

  • You can enjoy access to a wider range of securities, industries and markets than most single investments, diversifying your investment risk while increasing potential returns.
  • By pooling together the money of multiple investors, transaction costs can be kept lower.
  • It's a simple and hassle-free way to invest. Rather than buying shares directly in a company yourself, you don’t have to track the market movement on a daily basis – all of this  is done for you.

Risks

  • Investment products are subject to investment risks, including possible loss of some, or all, of the principal amount invested. Past performance is not indicative of future results. Investments can go down as well as up. This means you might get back less than you invested.
  • Funds that invest in smaller companies may involve more volatility than larger stocks, while investments in emerging markets may also involve a higher degree of risk.
  • Investment products in foreign currencies may  be subject to exchange rate fluctuations.

  • Citi's Investment Fund options

Citi offers over 180 different Investment Funds in Euros, Dollars and Pounds (GBP) to fit your investment strategy and your risk profile. New All-In Monthly Fee

Do you expect to make regular Investment Fund transactions during the year to adjust for market movements? If so, our Monthly Fixed Percentage Charge may suit you best.

Clients pay a fixed fee of 1.5% per annum (1.0% for Citigold Private Clients) on the total value of their Investment Fund account, and payments are made monthly.

You must have £200,000 in your Investment Fund account to be eligible for this option.

Citigold Client Example

Investment amount: £200,000.
Fixed percentage Monthly Charge: £254.79 (31 day calendar month).

Assumption that the investment remains at £200,000 throughout the month. Note: As the Fixed Percentage Monthly Charge depends on the daily value of your Fund holdings, the charge may vary from month to month.

Standard Upfront Charge

If, after buying your chosen Investment Funds, you expect to leave these assets untouched for an extended period of time, our Standard Upfront Charge may be most appropriate.

There is a Global Custody fee of 0.5% that applies to all investment products you hold with Citi and is charged on a monthly basis.
