How FX Conversions work?

Converting Sterling to Euros, Euros to USD, USD to Sterling and many more is easy with FX Conversions. Access FX Conversions using the Citi Mobile® UK app, Citi Online or by contacting your Relationship Manager. Our lowest transaction rates are available on the Citi Mobile® UK app or Citi Online.


  • Exchange up to £5,000,000 online between your Citi currency accounts with instant access to your funds after conversion
  • Online currency conversions as payments to accounts outside Citi can be made up to £75,000 or currency equivalent
  • There is also an FX Counsellor team that specialise in assisting our clients regarding larger currency transactions, diversification of holdings and managing market risk
  • Our lowest transaction rates are available with Citi Mobile® UK app and Citi Online

FX Order Watch allows you to set your own preferred exchange rate between two currencies - for example US Dollar and Euro.

Experience ease in ordering currency online. Set up FX Order Watch quickly and easily using Citi Online, or ask your Relationship Manager to do this for you during office hours. Our dedicated FX Counsellors are also there to provide expert assistance in meeting your Foreign Exchange needs.

How to place an order

First, you chose the currencies you want to exchange and the rate at which you want to trade (the watch rate), as well as the term over which you want the deal to happen (between one and 90 days). You then place your FX Order using Citi Online, by contacting your Relationship Manager or through our FX Counsellors.

Choose from over 10 different currencies and the following types of orders:

  • Take Profit Limit Order: You place an order to buy or sell a currency at a best case rate, which can be used to take advantage of the market moving in your favour.
  • Stop Loss Order: You place an order to buy or sell a currency at a worst case rate, which can be used to protect yourself against the market moving against you.
  • One-cancel-other order: You place two orders at the same time. Whichever target is hit first, that trade is executed and the other order is automatically cancelled. If neither target is hit by the end of the term, the order expires.

Currency Risk

International currency exchange solutions are subject to fluctuations in different currency markets. There is always a risk with any FX product that you could lose some of your capital if you make a trade and then immediately decide to switch back to your original currency. For this reason our FX solutions, including FX Order Watch, are best suited to experienced investors and those clients who already operate in more than one currency, or those who are prepared to accept the risk that currencies can fluctuate.

Citigold is available if you have an average monthly balance of £150,000 (or currency equivalent) across all your Citi UK accounts, including investments, or if you hold an account with Citi International Personal Bank in London or Jersey. If you don't meet either of these criteria, a monthly fee of £75 will apply.
